ILINOVA KICK- OFF WORKSHOP HELD IN KENYA

The ILINOVA kick-off workshop was held in Egerton University, Kenya under the theme “Strengthening Capacity for Participatory Management of Indigenous Livestock to Foster Agriculture Innovation in Eastern, Southern and Western Africa”. The workshop took place at ARC hotel from 23rd- 28th February 2014.

Twenty four participants drawn from Obafemi Awolowo University- Nigeria, Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources- Malawi and Egerton University- Kenya attended.

In his opening remark, the lead scientist Prof. A.K Kahi congratulated member Universities involved in the project and emphasized on the importance of the project while encouraging participants to work harder for an accelerated total realization of set goals and needed impact from the project in the society.

Prof. Kahi assisted by Dr. Wasike took partner Universities through the various components of the project. This was after the speech on overview of the project (objectives, estimated results, activities and action plan) was presented to the participants. Thereafter each partner University made a presentation on overview of their respective Universities and their expectation for the project.

Topics presented in the workshop included, general project management, academic capacity and educational development, visibility and knowledge transfer, fixing of an action plan and responsibilities among others.

Dates for summer camps for scientists were dully set and the possible topics to be covered during the summer camps were conclusively decided upon. In addition on visibility and knowledge, the date for the International Conference on Livestock Innovation and S&T Exhibition was set. On the same line the theme and sub themes for the First World Congress on Innovations for Livestock Development were decided upon.

Partner Universities pledged their unflinching support and commitment to work hard for total realization of the goals of the project and much needed impact.
