Egerton University through the Faculty of Agriculture for the first time organized Mr. and Miss Agriculture Egerton 2014 dubbed "Promoting Youth Involvement in Agriculture for Food Security and National Growth", which aimed at encouraging the youth to embrace agriculture through fashion and beauty.

The event was organized by the Faculty of Agriculture Students Association (FASA) in collaboration with the newly formed Agriculture Pre-Professionals and Students Association of Kenya (APPSAKENYA), Egerton Chapter.

It was facilitated by Egerton Value Chain Programmes, Faculty of Agriculture, Umaltimate Holdings and Students Union of Egerton University (SUEU).

Despite the local perception many youths have towards agriculture, contestants were able to display the better side of agriculture.

The categories were Official wear, Beach wear, Dinner wear and Farmers wear which brought a lot of fun and totally made agriculture look "cool".

Among the contestants Kevin Gitonga emerged Mr. Agriculture Egerton 2014 and Angella Mumbi as Miss Agriculture Egerton 2014.

The two will represent the Faculty of Agriculture and Egerton University at large at the Central Rift Region Mr. and Miss ASK 2014 on 27th June, 2014 at the Nakuru showground.

Both Mr. and Miss Agriculture Egerton 2014 displayed a youthful engagement in agriculture and significantly changed the mind of the many young Kenyans who have neglected the importance of agriculture.

Preparations are underway to introduce the same event at the national level for the first time in the history of Kenya.
