Solar-Powered Milk Cooler from Ministry of Agriculture

Egerton University has received a 2,000-litre capacity solar-powered milk cooler from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, in a move aimed at boosting milk preservation and enhancing training in dairy value addition. The equipment was officially handed over to Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics, Research and Extension) Prof. Bernard Aduda by Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, Sen. Mutahi Kagwe, during a ceremony held at the Dairy Training Institute (DTI), Naivasha.

AgriSCALE project: Re-conceptualizing education in African HEIs

The Collaboration Action for scaling Agri-Entrepreneurship and Industry Engagement in Food and Agribusiness Training in Sub-Saharan Africa (AgriSCALE) is a joint initiative by 9 HEIs (Higher Education Institutions) in Finland, Kenya, Italy, Uganda and Zambia. The four-year (2020-2024) project has been working to reform agri-entrepreneurship education to equip graduates with working life-relevant and entrepreneurial skills. The project envisions that the new generation of graduates will have the competencies to create jobs and to improve the sustainability of agriculture.

InCIP Patronises the Sustainable Animal Agriculture for Developing Countries (SAADC) Conference

The Indigenous Chicken Improvement Programme (InCIP), with support from the Government of Malawi, Agricultural Sector Wide Approach Programme (ASWAP) together with the conference organisers, facilitated Judith C. Kanyama and Yvonne S. Kamanga, both final year students pursuing Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Animal Science at LUANAR, to attend  a conference on Sustainable Animal Agriculture for Developing Countries (SAADC) in China from 27 to 31 July, 2013 that was patronised by participants from 26 countries.

Dr. M. Ambula Facilitates IC Handbook Preparation Workshop

Dr. M Ambula from Egerton University facilitated Indigenous Chicken (IC) module preparation exercise which was held in Malawi on 13th and 14th of January, 2014.

Dr. Ambula will lead the ongoing work which will produce a training module for IC farmers. The exercise is a task that contributes towards activities 3 and 4 of InCIP.

The module will incorporate all aspects of IC production from production to processing.

This is particularly intended for the Sub-Saharan Africa region.
